Art Basel: Maurizio Cattelan's $120,000 banana eaten by artist

An art work of an overripe banana duct-taped to a wall that offered for $120,000 (£91,000) has been eaten by way of a separate efficiency artist.

The art work, titled Comic, by way of Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, used to be on show on the global gallery Perrotin at Artwork Basel in Miami.

3 consumers purchased the limited-edition items of the banana artwork this week.

However efficiency artist David Datuna pulled it from the wall, peeled it and wolfed it on Saturday.

“Artwork efficiency by way of me. I like Maurizio Cattelan art work and I truly love this set up. It is very scrumptious,” Mr Datuna posted on Instagram.

In spite of the preliminary anger of a member of personnel, the banana used to be rapidly changed and no additional motion can be taken.

The artwork reportedly comes with a certificates of authenticity, that means house owners can substitute the banana.

“[Datuna] didn’t spoil the paintings. The banana is the speculation,” Lucien Terras, a director on the gallery, informed the Miami Usher in.

Police have been later deployed to protect the substitute banana.

Artwork Basel is among the global’s maximum high-profile recent artwork festivals.
