CLOSEaretha franklins greatest pop culture moments from blues brothers to murphy brown - Dodgers fall to Mariners in extra innings on walk-off balk

The 2017 World Series teams are struggling with injuries and depth. Can they make it back to the postseason?
USA TODAY Sports

Locked in a tight playoff battle in the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers roared back with two runs in the eighth inning and one in the ninth to send their game against the Seattle Mariners into extra innings tied at 4-4.

And then they lost on a walk-off balk.

Seriously.

With the bases loaded in the 10th, the Dodgers’ Dylan Floro was cited for the infraction while pitching to the Mariners’ Kyle Seager, who had hit a three-run homer earlier in the game.

Shortstop Manny Machado’s reaction kind of says it all for the Dodgers, who have gone 3-7 in their last 10 games and now sit two games back of the NL West lead and two games back of a wild-card spot.

Whilst it was once a peculiar, crushing loss for the Dodgers, it was once an similarly giant (and nonetheless bizarre) win for the Mariners. Seattle is in its personal dogfight within the AL West, and now sits 3½ video games again of the Houston Astros and Oakland A’s for first and 3½ video games again of a wild-card spot.
