BBC Radio 2’s Drivetime display must be renamed as it celebrates “a type of shipping that kills 1,700 other folks a 12 months”, presenter Jeremy Vine has mentioned.

Sara Cox is ready to switch co-presenters Simon Mayo and Jo Whiley as host of the display, which runs between 17:00 and 19:00 GMT, in 2019.

Vine, who hosts his personal Radio 2 slot, mentioned the display wanted a brand new identify “for post-car Britain”.

A BBC spokesman mentioned the brand new display would in truth be known as “Sara Cox”.

Drivetime, he added, was once only a “generic time period for that point of day”.

In October, the BBC introduced Cox would provide the “logo new weekday Drivetime display”.

Cox herself added she was once “proud” to offer “this sort of giant display as Drivetime”.
